Welcome to the Tango colorado blog

Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.

This blog is a new space created by Tango Colorado, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and growing Argentine Tango in Colorado. Whether you’ve been dancing for years, are just beginning to explore tango, or are simply curious about what draws people to this dance, this blog is for you.

Argentine Tango has a way of pulling people in—not just through movement and music, but through connection, conversation, and community. With this blog, we’re opening a place to share those ideas, ask questions, and shine a light on the people and experiences that make tango in Colorado what it is. Think of this as an extension of the dance floor: a space to learn, reflect, and connect, one post at a time.

Who We Are: Tango Colorado

Tango Colorado is a nonprofit organization devoted to bringing Argentine Tango to life across the state. Founded in 1996, we’ve spent decades supporting dancers, hosting events, and helping tango take root and grow in our community.

We host weekly milongas featuring a rotating cast of DJs and instructors, creating spaces where dancers can connect to the music, to each other, and to the evolving tradition of tango. In addition to our weekly events, we also host monthly milongas and an annual festival that brings the community together in a larger, celebratory way.

Denver Does Tango (DDT) holds a special place in our hearts. It is free and intentionally beginner-friendly, designed to welcome new people into the tango community and make the dance feel accessible, inviting, and fun. Whether someone is stepping onto the dance floor for the first time or returning with years of experience, DDT reflects what we value most: openness, curiosity, and connection.

Everything we do is supported by volunteers, teachers, DJs, musicians, and dancers who care deeply about tango and the people drawn to it. This blog is one more way we continue that work—sharing knowledge, stories, and perspectives that reflect the living, breathing tango community here in Colorado.

A Few Words About Tango

Argentine Tango is often described as a dance, but it’s also a conversation. It’s built on listening: to your partner, to the music, and to the moment. It rewards patience, curiosity, and connection more than perfection. What draws many people in isn’t just the movement, but the shared experience: walking together, responding to the music, and finding connection in a crowded room.

Here in Colorado, tango takes on its own local flavor, shaped by the people who show up and make space for one another. This blog is one place where we’ll continue exploring what tango is, how it works, and why it keeps so many of us coming back.

Why This Blog Exists

This blog is a space to explore tango beyond the dance floor. It’s a place to ask questions, share knowledge, and reflect on the experiences that shape our community—whether that’s learning how a milonga works, understanding tango music, or navigating the social side of the dance.

More importantly, this blog is about people. Here, we’re making space for stories, insights, and reflections from all corners of the tango community. Our hope is that it helps make tango feel more approachable, human, and connected for everyone who finds their way here.

What You’ll Find Here

You’ll find two main types of posts on this blog, each offering a different way to engage with tango and its community.

Tango 1002 posts are our educational pieces. They’re designed to go a step beyond the basics, answering common questions and unpacking the parts of tango that often feel unspoken or confusing. Whether it’s etiquette, music, or how different tango spaces work, these posts aim to make tango more understandable and approachable.

Community Column posts focus on the people who make tango in Colorado what it is. These pieces highlight stories, experiences, and perspectives from within the community, offering a chance to learn from one another and celebrate the many ways people connect to tango.

Looking Ahead

At its heart, this blog exists to celebrate tango and the people who make it thrive here in Colorado. We hope it becomes a space where dancers, newcomers, volunteers, and curious minds alike can explore, learn, and connect. Whether you’re here to dive into the steps, discover the music, or hear the stories behind our community, there’s something for you.

We’re excited to share this journey with you and can’t wait to see how it grows with your stories, questions, and experiences. Together, we can make tango in Colorado more vibrant, welcoming, and alive than ever.
