THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF TANGO

THANK YOU! THANK YOU for the incredible support of "The Story of Tango", the collaborative effort of many and a show we hope to see again.  We will be posting some photos from the "show" on the website. (thanks to Lyn Alweis.)  We had over 200 people in attendance--many, many new faces who we hope will return.   The energy was incredible; everyone was upbeat; the music was fantastic; the free class got rave reviews; the Tango art was stunning; the show was incredibly received by all who attended; the milonga was one of the best we've had.  Again, thanks to all of you who participated (as a spectator, helper, or participant) for your support, but more importantly, your uplifting and generous spirits!

ONCE A MONTH DENVER PRACTICA CELEBRATION

*********************************

We would like to revitalize a revised version of "the birthday dance" tradition at one practica each month.

On the third Tuesday of each month, in lieu of the Community Dance, we will be calling any dancer who has a birthday during that month, to the center of the floor.  When the music begins, anyone may go up to any of these dancers and dance with them.  When the DJ makes an announcement (he or she will tell us what the cue is), each couple will separate and ask another person on the sidelines to dance.  This process will repeat until, hopefully, everyone is dancing.  If you've ever experienced the "Snowball" dance at the Mercury Cafe, it will be similar to that.  It's a lot of fun.  The board has elected to do this for several months as a trial.  After we've done a few, we would very much appreciate your feedback as to how you like it.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE UPDATE
******************
The newly formed hospitality committee will be launching a new program each week to help new dancers feel more welcomed and comfortable. One member of the group of committee volunteers will beintroduced by the fundamentals instructor each week and will provide basic information about TC, the practicas, etc, encouraging the students to stay for the practica, if only to watch. Brochures and class assessments will be handed out and questions from the group will be solicited. We hope that a more personal touch will help relieve some of the frustration new Tango students feel. Thanks to all our Hospitality Committee volunteers!

THE TURNVEREIN COOLING FUND UPDATE/STATUS

We will attempt to update this monthly.

We cannot accomplish this without your financial help!  ALL CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BETWEEN Jan. and June, 2008 WILL BE MATCHED by a very generous donor! (Please read message below.)

Approximate - as of 4/19/08

Goal: $90,000

Collected to Date: $60,000*

Balance: $30,000

Work scheduled to begin: TBA (Current estimate, around the first of April)

Work scheduled for completion in summer of 2008.

*This includes donations made by all clubs and individuals, as well as the current donor match dollars contributed by our donor.  This is the amount of cash being held for the Cooling System.

A message from the Denver Turnverein's President, Bert Evans and Tango Colorado's VP, Bob Stang:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"To all the Denver Turnverein Clubs, Members, and Friends,

Great news!!!

A donor has generously agreed to match, dollar for dollar, on a monthly basis, between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008, the contributions to the cooling system of all the clubs and individuals up to $35,000,  at our 'home', the Denver Turnverein. With the money already set aside, this will take us to our required goal of paying cash for the cooling system.  Your donations up to $35,000 will raise a total of $70,000 for the cooling system.

The Board of Directors has approved a system.  We just need the funds and necessary approvals to install cooling.

Individuals: It would be only $20 ($5 a month between now and June) per member. This would result in estimated donations of $20,000.  You may generously contribute directly to your club, or drop your contribution in the brown cooling fund box placed in the lobby of the Turnverein.

Large donors, wishing to make a tax deductible donation, contact Bob Stang (see below).

Clubs: Organize your own fund raising committee and report your monthly successes to Robert Stang or Bert Evans for the monthly matching funds. Or, assign a club member to work, as your representative, on the fund raising committee with Bert Evans and Bob Stang

Let's all work together to take advantage of this wonderful, once in a lifetime, $35,000 opportunity to have our new cooling system completed by June!

Sincerely,

Bert Evans and Bob Stang
